Nature’s Knots was born from the use of cast off pieces others were using for firewood. I saw the beauty in the grain and just knew the color would shine if I could just polish it out. And that’s what I did. Using the knots and short pieces others didn’t want I started to make things. Stuff like wall hangings, candle holders and bird houses.
Over the years I’ve collected an entire wood working shop, developed the skill set necessary to build furniture and market custom and one of a kind pieces. I have a heavy addiction to jewelry chests and dining tables made from locally reclaimed barns. Holding to my roots of frugality Nature’s Knots relies heavily on reclaimed wood. It’s also not uncommon for me to mill a piece of firewood to get enough wood to make a bench, jewelry box or fly box.
Some of the most beautiful wood is the old growth timber used to build our fore fathers barns and homestead buildings. When given the opportunity to reclaim this historic lumber, it’s a no brainer.
Every piece of furniture that comes out of the wood shop is a custom, one-of-a-kind, piece of artwork that you will cherish for a lifetime. Explore Marty’s recent projects to gather ideas for your own custom piece of wood furniture.
